Spanish and the kids

I am so impressed with how the kids are doing with their Spanish. Laney's teacher says they are  now having conversations in Spanish about things she has done over the weekend. The other day I overheard her telling Creed, while they were playing in her room, that they could only speak Spanish. Creed responded with Como estas? They said a few things in Spanish before reverting back to English. Yesterday while she was in her quiet time I heard her talking to herself in Spanish. I think she may be learning it early enough that she just talks and doesn't translate like I do; which is a huge benefit. She talked only for a minute or so in Spanish; but I am still impressed. Today she took her little play computer that has both Spanish and English on it, which she loves (thanks Tia), and said she was going into her quiet time to work on her Spanish. Granted she does tell my mom that she knows more Spanish than me and that might be coming true here in a few. However, I still don't appreciate it.

Creed is doing great as well. He repeats everything and can ask for things in Spanish. He asks what words are in Spanish all the time. Laney learned the days of the week song in school and in five minutes he was singing it too. They do not know the order in English, but they do in Spanish:) He loves to sing that song. I need to get more little songs for him. He also loves going to Spanish class. He is bummed it is only once a week and thinks he should go when Laney goes. He is the ham of class and  likes to make the other students laugh. While he is doing that he talks a ton in Spanish.

I am feeling really good about how well they are doing and that we are not just throwing them to the wolves once we get there. I am however, a little concerned about myself. I guess I need to be thrown to the wolves  so I will finally learn Spanish.

Let it begin!!

I  just finished painting the closets upstairs and our bedroom. As usual I have to be pushed into doing any work; especially stuff around the house. A ton of stuff has been done to the house last week; putting in trim, fixing all these things that have been on the long list, but never done. I am so grateful for all that has been done. I knew we needed trim, but that much trim?! The house looks amazing. Since everything had to be taken out of the closets I thought it would be a good time to start the painting. Plus, the weather was decent so I figured it could dry faster. My parents took the kids to the zoo yesterday so I could get it started and Jason taped a bunch while I painted. Then today I continued. Jason helped on the tricky parts where there is wood (I am not a good cutter) while our babysitter; the tv, occupied the kids for an hour. Granted we still have to paint almost every other room in the house, but at least we started.

Two good things came out of it; one is that Jason is a really good taper, I won't paint without him again. It makes it all so much easier. Second, we can now get rid of stuff more while we put away our clothes. All in all a very productive weekend. It is only the beginning of April and we are well on our way. I need to keep doing one room at a time and then it will be done without some crazy frenzy at the end. Well, there will probably be some of that; just  not as much now.
