When we decided to join my parents on vacation in Mazatlan we thought it would be a great idea to go to Spanish school and work on our Spanish. I am always amazed at how much work it needs even though it feels like we work on it a lot. I am so excited that I can understand our teacher when she speaks in Spanish; so there is some progress in my learning Spanish. For the first day of class we figured we would just take a cab and make things simple. We told the cab driver the address and were excited to be on our way. Although Delaney was crying b/c she wanted to take a bus, not a cab. After what seemed a long drive we ended up somewhere farther off the beach than we thought. Luckily, Jason kept asking the driver questions while he was trying unload us. We realized he had dropped us off at Angela Peralta Theater, not the Street. Our driver asked someone for directions and back toward the hotel we went. We finally found it and we were only ten minutes late.
The next day we thought we would take a bus since we had more time. The kids got up at 5:30am and even though they were tired they decided they weren't tired enough to back to sleep. Bummer. Vacations with kids do not include sleeping in. We walked to the bus stop; at least Jason and I walked to the bus stop. We asked the guy if the bus there was going to where we wanted and he said "yes". Laney was sad that the bus did not have seat belts. As we started to get close to where we needed to go the bus turned and then kept going and going. We weren't sure how long to stay on it; wondering if it would eventually make it back to where we needed to be. We finally got off and got a cab. Lucky for us it is easy to find a cab or a pulmania (little open air cab). I am sure it helps that the four of us stand out like a sore thumb. Especially my blond, blue eyed, and extremely pale children. Somehow we made it to class only 15 minutes late. I have a feeling once we move to Central America we will have numerous experiences like this.
The kids seem to be pretty adventuresome and are doing great. School makes them tired and they don't quite have the desire to walk a ton. I guess they do have pretty short legs and we are dragging them all over. A little weight training won't kill me only make me stronger. Thankfully Jason is stronger and he carry a kid or two as well.
